A Maritime Security
Identification
Card (MSIC) is
part of
the government’s
initiative to create
a consistent port security
system nationally, which
is fully portable. A
MSIC recognises that
the holder
has satisfied the background
security requirements
and is approved
to work unmonitored in
a maritime security zone.
The cards will come into
effect on the 1st January
2007 and without a valid
MSIC you will not be
granted access to work
in a maritime security
zone unmonitored.
Who
needs a MSIC?
Maritime industry workers
and contractors (with
a proven operational
need) requiring access
to maritime security
zones will need to display
an MSIC by 1st January,
2007. Everyone who will
need an MSIC must have
applied by the 11th September
2006.
